Baptism Explained
Is it a family tradition, sacred sacrament or a sign of new beginnings? The sacrament of Baptism may be all of the above. This beautiful sacrament is given to us from a God who loves and calls each of us by name. Learn more in this video presented by Word on Fire.
Preparing for Baptism
Step 1: fill out the application
Fill out the application form online. Submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate. Our office will be in touch to begin the scheduling process. Baptisms are usually on Saturday mornings or afternoons.
Step 2: watch these videos
Parents and Godparents are required to watch two short videos and complete the paired study guides for their baptismal preparations.
Step 3: take your in-person class
Baptism prep is required for parents and godparents and can be completed with us or your home parish if you live elsewhere. The class is valid for three years prior to completion.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do baptisms take place?
Baptisms are scheduled through our Administrative Assistant at the Parish Office and depend on the availability of the church and the priest/deacon. Typically baptisms occur on Saturday mornings/afternoons but can be any day of the week if it works for all involved parties.
Is there any fee required?
Fees are not required. Donations are welcome.
Who can be a godparent?
A godparent must be a Confirmed Catholic, at least 16 years of age, and leading a Christian lifestyle practicing their faith.
Can a non-Catholic person be a Godparent?
No, they cannot, but they can be a Christian Witness. They must be a baptized Christian.
How many Godparents do I need?
Two Godparents is the custom (a man and a woman), but you need at least one. If you only have one, the person must be a confirmed Catholic.
